This Privacy Policy applies to the Saffaroo application and services, which are owned and operated by Cindy Bagg, trading as Jaycin ('we', 'us', or 'our'). It explains how we collect, use, disclose and protect your personal information when you use our Services.
We are responsible for making decisions about how your personal information is handled. If you do not agree with our policies and practices, please do not use our Services. If you have any questions or concerns, contact us at howzit@saffaroo.com.au.
What personal information do we collect? Information you give us when you create an account, submit a listing or event, report an appointment, or contact us — plus limited technical information collected automatically.
Do we collect sensitive information? No.
Do we use your information for advertising? No. We do not run advertising, we do not sell or share your personal information, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.
Is your information stored in Australia? No. Saffaroo is operated from Australia but hosted overseas, primarily in the United States. See Section 5.
What are your rights? You can access, correct or delete your information, and you can delete your account from within the app at any time.
In short: we collect information you give us, and limited technical information collected automatically.
When you create an account or use the Services, we may collect:
Most of these fields are optional. Only your email address is required to hold an account.
We do not collect sensitive information as defined by the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). The "Not Feeling Lekker?" section of the app provides links and phone numbers to external support services. We do not record, log or store which of those resources you view or contact.
When you use the Services, our hosting and infrastructure providers automatically record technical information as part of normal operation. This may include your IP address, browser type and version, device type and operating system, and the date and time of requests. This information is used to operate and secure the Services.
If you enable push notifications, our notification provider assigns your device an identifier so that notifications can be delivered to it. You can turn push notifications off at any time in the app or in your device settings.
We do not collect GPS or precise location data. When you type an address into a search or listing field, the text you enter is sent to Google Places to return address suggestions. We store only the city and state you select for your profile or listing.
The app may ask for permission to access your device's photo library or camera, so that you can upload a profile picture or an image with a listing. It may also ask permission to send you notifications. You can change or withdraw these permissions at any time in your device settings.
In short: to run the Services, communicate with you, keep the platform safe, and meet our legal obligations.
We do not use your information for advertising or behavioural profiling.
In short: Saffaroo is run from Australia, but your information is stored overseas.
Saffaroo is operated from Australia. However, the platform is hosted on infrastructure located outside Australia. Your personal information is stored and processed primarily in the United States, and may also be accessed or processed in Israel, Germany and the United Kingdom by service providers who help us operate the Services.
Your information may be subject to the laws of those countries, including lawful access requests by their government authorities.
By creating an account and using the Services, you consent to your personal information being transferred to, stored in, and processed in these countries. You should be aware that if you consent to this disclosure, Australian Privacy Principle 8.1 will not apply, the overseas recipients may not be subject to privacy protections comparable to those under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), and you may not be able to seek redress against those recipients under Australian law.
We remain accountable to you for how your personal information is handled, and we take reasonable steps to select providers with appropriate security practices.
In short: if you sign in with Google, we receive basic profile information.
You may register and sign in using your Google account. If you do, we receive basic profile information from Google — typically your name, email address and profile picture. We use this only as described in this Privacy Policy.
We do not control how Google handles your information, and we recommend reviewing Google's own privacy policy. Where we offer Google Sign-In on Apple devices, Sign in with Apple is also available.
In short: for as long as you have an account, unless the law requires otherwise.
We keep your personal information for as long as you hold an account with us, and for as long as necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, unless a longer period is required or permitted by law.
When you delete your account, your profile and associated records are removed from our active systems. Copies may persist in our hosting provider's routine backup archives for a period after deletion. Where information remains in backups, it is isolated from further use until it is overwritten or deleted in the normal course.
In short: we take reasonable technical and organisational measures, but no system is perfectly secure.
We have implemented reasonable technical and organisational measures designed to protect your personal information, and our hosting provider maintains its own security controls and certifications. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. You access the Services at your own risk and should keep your account credentials confidential.
In short: you can access, correct and delete your information at any time.
Under the Australian Privacy Principles you have the right to:
Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of anything done before you withdrew it. If you withdraw consent to overseas storage, we will not be able to continue providing the Services to you, as the platform is hosted overseas.
If you choose not to provide certain information, it may affect our ability to provide parts of the Services to you.
You can review and update your profile information at any time in your account settings.
You can delete your account directly in the app, in your account settings. Deleting your account removes your profile and your submitted content from our active systems.
You can also contact us at howzit@saffaroo.com.au to request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information. We will respond within a reasonable period, and ordinarily within 30 days.
Some browsers and devices offer a Do-Not-Track setting. There is currently no agreed standard for how these signals should be handled, and we do not respond to them. This is of limited relevance to Saffaroo, as we do not track users across other websites or apps.
Saffaroo is operated from Australia and we handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles. Saffaroo is also intended for South Africans preparing to move to Australia, and we recognise that many of our users are located in South Africa.
Where the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 ('POPIA') applies to our handling of your personal information, we aim to process your information in accordance with its requirements.
Under POPIA you have the right to:
Transfer of your information outside South Africa. As explained in Section 5, Saffaroo is hosted outside South Africa, primarily in the United States. By creating an account and using the Services, you consent to your personal information being transferred to and processed in these countries for the purpose of providing the Services to you. We take reasonable steps to select service providers that maintain appropriate security safeguards.
You may request access to or correction of your personal information at any time by contacting us at howzit@saffaroo.com.au.
If you are unsatisfied with how we have addressed a privacy concern, you may contact the Information Regulator (South Africa):
If you access the Services from elsewhere, you may have additional rights under your local law. Contact us and we will do our best to assist.
If you are concerned about how we have handled your personal information, please contact us first at howzit@saffaroo.com.au. We will acknowledge your complaint and aim to respond within 30 days.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you may lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at www.oaic.gov.au. If you are in South Africa, you may instead complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa) — see Section 12 for contact details.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The updated version will be shown by a revised "Last updated" date at the top of this page. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the Services or by email. We encourage you to review this page from time to time.
